I am deeply concerned about the ongoing attempts by the National Center for Public Policy Research to undermine Costco's diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives. As a believer in a democracy that stands up for everyone's rights, it is very unsettling to me to see these attempts to push back against the progress we have made towards social equity through DEI initiatives.

More so, the claim that DEI efforts are un-American contradicts the principles on which our nation was built. The United States was formed upon individual freedom and social equity and continues to uphold these principles.

Evidence of DEI efforts' benefit is abundant within small and large organizations alike. In a study by McKinsey & Company, companies in the top quartile for racial and ethnic diversity are 35% more likely to have financial returns above their industry's median.

To label these efforts as federal overreach is inaccurate and detrimental. Thus, I challenge everyone not to be swayed by such unfounded claims. Instead, let us stand strong in support of initiatives that advance fairness, equity, and freedom.
