We are residents and community members strongly opposing the proposed data center development on the former Kenwood Convent property.

Data centers are large-scale industrial facilities that can have significant local impacts. While they serve digital infrastructure needs, their placement must be carefully considered in relation to surrounding communities.

This proposed project raises serious concerns, including:

Massive electricity demand, which can strain local power infrastructure and increase reliance on high-capacity energy generation
High water usage for cooling systems, which can place significant demand on municipal or groundwater supplies and reduce availability for residential, agricultural, and ecological needs
Potential strain on local water resources and infrastructure, including concerns about long-term impacts on water availability and system capacity depending on cooling methods and operational scale
Noise pollution, including continuous low-frequency hum from cooling equipment and backup generators
Light pollution, from 24/7 operations and security lighting affecting nearby homes and wildlife
Traffic and construction disruption during buildout and ongoing maintenance activity
Limited long-term job creation, as data centers typically require relatively few permanent on-site employees compared to the size and scale of the facility
Long-term environmental footprint, including sustained energy and water consumption at an industrial scale
We are not opposed to technology or development in general. However, the scale and intensity of this type of facility make this an inappropriate location for a project of this size.

We also recognize that in other communities, residents near similar facilities have raised concerns about quality-of-life impacts, including noise, lighting, and strain on local resources. These lived experiences underscore the importance of careful siting and full public review before approval.

We are asking local officials and planning authorities to:

Reject approval of the current proposal
Deny rezoning or special use permits required for this development
Ensure future use of the site is compatible with surrounding residential and community needs
This decision will permanently affect the area. It should not move forward without full consideration of its long-term impacts on residents and local infrastructure.
