Oppose 2024 Lambertville HS Redevelopment: Protect Our Community's Health & Safety

The Issue

We, the undersigned, oppose the 2024 Lambertville High School Redevelopment Plan. This proposed development project presents too many threats to the Lambertville community including, but not limited to:

  • Risk to Connaught Hill residents' well water from pollution, both from disruption of the open landfill and the burned down Teflon manufacturing plant on the redevelopment site
  • Increased risk and severity of flooding in Lambertville's downtown neighborhoods, along with insufficient models for assessment of real flood risks
  • Increased parking and traffic issues with the addition of 400-500 vehicles to town with no improvements to roads, addition of sidewalks, or safe pedestrian access across 179
  • 12 acres of deforestation and destruction of natural habitat, risk of slope instability, and an additional 1 million gallons of water with no place to go but downhill
  • An untrustworthy developer, K. Hovnanian, who recently settled lawsuits in 18 states & D.C. (nearly 600 sites) for Clean Water Act violations, specifically from stormwater mismanagement
  • Barriers to true equity for residents in affordable housing, which will be segregated both by location and management

Overall, we are tremendously concerned for our community's health and safety. We believe that by working together we can develop a stronger, more integrated plan to meet our city's affordable housing obligation and uphold the values that make Lambertville such a special place to live.
