The Issue

*Petition to Oppose the 117th/116th Pedestrian Pathway Project and Support Standard Sidewalks**

We, the undersigned residents and concerned citizens, respectfully urge local authorities to reconsider and halt the proposed 117th/116th Pedestrian Pathway Project in favor of implementing standard sidewalks. While we recognize the importance of pedestrian safety and accessibility, we strongly believe that the current pathway project poses significant drawbacks that outweigh its intended benefits. We propose that standard sidewalks would better serve our community without causing the disruptions and negative consequences outlined below.

**Reasons for Opposition:**

1. **Unsightly Curb Appeal and Negative Impact on Property Values**
The proposed pedestrian pathway design is visually unappealing and inconsistent with the character of our neighborhoods. Its implementation risks lowering property values, which would unfairly burden homeowners and diminish the aesthetic appeal that draws residents to this area.

2. **Disruption to Garbage Services**
The pathway’s construction and layout will interfere with existing garbage collection routes and access points, potentially leading to delays, missed pickups, or the need for costly adjustments to waste management services.

3. **Disruption to Postal Services**
Similar concerns apply to postal delivery operations. The pathway’s design could restrict access for mail carriers, resulting in inconsistent service and unnecessary inconvenience for residents who rely on timely deliveries.

4. **Increased Traffic Volumes on 117th, 116th, and Surrounding Streets**
The project is likely to redirect traffic patterns, increasing congestion not only on 117th and 116th streets but also on adjacent roads. This added strain will compromise safety and quality of life for residents throughout the area.

5. **Significant Impact to Surrounding Neighborhoods**
Beyond the immediate streets, the broader community will feel the ripple effects of construction disruptions, noise, and altered traffic flows. This project risks destabilizing the peace and functionality of our interconnected neighborhoods.

6. **Severely Reduced Access for Homeowners**
The pathway’s footprint will drastically limit driveway and street access for residents, particularly for those with boat trailers, travel trailers, RVs, or other large vehicles. This restriction infringes on homeowners’ ability to use and enjoy their properties as they currently do.

**Our Request:**
We call on decision-makers to abandon the 117th/116th Pedestrian Pathway Project and instead invest in standard sidewalks that meet pedestrian needs without sacrificing the functionality, beauty, and livability of our community. Standard sidewalks offer a practical, cost-effective solution that addresses safety while preserving property rights and neighborhood integrity.
