The Issue

For months, I've eagerly watched the development of the new skatepark and pumptrack at Sea Monster Park in Irvine. As someone who has been waiting ever since the last installation was completed, my excitement has slowly turned into frustration. Why? Because both these amazing facilities remain unopened. The skatepark and the pumptrack were to be a dynamic addition for our community—a place for kids, teens, and adults alike to practice their skills, enjoy the outdoors, and engage with others in a healthy, active way.

The completion of the installations was met with enthusiasm by residents throughout Irvine. Many of us had hoped that the park might open in stages, providing immediate access to these facilities instead of waiting for both to be ready simultaneously. For many families, particularly those with active children, these facilities represent more than just recreational areas. They are essential for promoting physical activity, developing new skills, and fostering a sense of community.

Statistics consistently show that communities with accessible athletic hubs experience lower crime rates and higher citizen satisfaction. According to the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA), skateparks can increase property values and promote physical wellness across all age groups. By keeping these spaces closed, valuable opportunities are being lost.

We understand there might be logistical or safety concerns hindering the opening. However, a phased opening could offer a feasible solution. Prioritize the opening of the skatepark, where safety checks are promptly completed, while ensuring any remaining work on the pumptrack does not delay access further.

There's an eager community ready to embrace these additions. We respectfully urge city officials and park authorities to consider the benefits of making these facilities accessible now. Let's transform frustration into fulfillment and bring our community together at Sea Monster Park.

Please sign this petition to urge the City of Irvine to immediately open the skatepark and pumptrack. Your signature can help fast-track the opening and provide much-needed recreational space for our community.
