The Issue

As a parent in Southeast Texas, I know firsthand how hot and uncomfortable it can get here, especially for our little ones. With temperatures already soaring, my kids and many others are eagerly anticipating the opening of our local splash pad. However, we are left waiting until Memorial Day weekend for its opening.

For many families in our community, the splash pad isn't just a fun activity; it's a vital resource to keep children active and cool amidst the sweltering heat. The splash pad offers a safe and accessible way for our kids to enjoy the outdoors while staying refreshed and hydrated, without the risk of overheating or suffering from heat-related illnesses.

It’s not just my family feeling the heat. Many local parents and residents have expressed their desire and need for the splash pad to open sooner. According to recent studies, early exposure to consistent heat can affect children more adversely than adults, leading to dehydration and other health concerns. With temperatures in southeast Texas already climbing, waiting until the end of May feels unnecessary.

We understand there may be logistical reasons behind the Memorial Day opening, but we urge the relevant authorities to consider the well-being of our community's children. By opening the splash pad a few weeks earlier, you can help ensure a safe, cooling environment for our families during this critical and hot period.

Please join us in calling for an earlier opening date for our local splash pad. Sign this petition to keep our kids cool and make the most of our warm Texas sunshine!
