We Andy Sawalha and Anne Sawalha are Proprietors of the Business known as Carn Brea Castle Restaurant.

We have been trading as a family business for over 20 years and continue to do so despite the recent passing of Mr Munir Sawalha. Despite all of the help and support given to us by our Landlords Percy Williams, we now face the loss of our Business due to the hostile and unnecessary application made by Mr Tomas DJS Hill representing the Open Spaces Society for the entire area to be designated as Common Land. This action is taking place against us despite us having the formal Support of Carn Brea Parish Council (CBPC) who, like us and our Landlord, oppose the Application. Indeed, we and our Landlords worked with CBPC only five years ago to agree the existing Commons Land Act Registrationthat is pragmatic in nature and continues to work well for all affected Parties.

It is essential for us to retain control of our Customer car park and other Operational Facilities. This is also to the benefit of Cornwall Councilas they would otherwise have to contend with the vast amount of litter that we voluntarily collect. We have always been Community orientated and Every Easter we supply Power to the Redruth Baptist Church to illuminate their Cross on Carn Brea. Should we be forced to close down our Business, the Castle itself will be prejudiced and whenever it has been vacant in the past it has been severely vandalised. If we are forced to leave, there will be no realistic way to protect the Castle for future Generations. We therefore ask you to sign this Petition objecting to the Application.

(Please note that the Hearing before a Planning Inspector will take place at 10am at Pool Innovation Centre on Wednesday 30th October 2019 and is open to the Public).
