The commercial oyster fisherman of Alabama and the local community are petitioning the Alabama Marine Resource Division and the State of Alabama to open the public wild Alabama oyster reef. Alabama's oyster season is open from October 1st to April 30th. In 2022, the season opened on October 3rd and closed by December 23rd. The oyster fisherman would like to work a full season. The Marine Resource Division closes the reef abruptly and with no legitimate reason.  Our livelihood, subsistence and careers are hindered by Marine Resources unfair regulations. These unfair regulations and control tactics are inhibiting and impeding upon the commercial fisherman's livelihood, subsistence and career's, when there is an abundance of oysters readily available to harvest. We would like  the chance to work the reef for  a full season. There are an abundance of oysters ready to harvest in Alabama waters. Opening the reef until season's end would allow Alabama's oyster fisherman to surplus Alabama's oyster market and revive the local market and economy. This is beneficial to the community, local small  businesses and the oyster fisherman and many others who benefit from Alabama oysters.
