Firstly I am not an educator. I am a parent of 6 and have had children in our school system consistantly for over 27 years. I do volunteer work at my kids school on a regular basis and always have.

Education is key to our children's future and in turn to our own. Good education costs money there is no way around this. Cuts to education are never a good thing and simply undermine our world class education system.

The current government plans to make drastic changes to our education system that will prove detrimental to our kids and their futures. We as parents cannot allow this to happen! Teachers and educators need our support! We do not need larger classes, we do not need or want mandatory online education, and yes our teachers are worth what they earn and more.

Larger classes means less time per student, means some students that are already struggling will get swept under the carpet and never achieve what they may be capable of. Online education is not a reality for all students. Some cannot learn on their own due to lack of attention, determination, ability to stay on task and at home support. Also done students do not have access to the tools like a good computer, decent internet or any for that matter. Rural students may not be able to travel to the public library to access this. As well some students need that physical body of a teacher present. Teachers are more than just educators behind a screen, they are mentors, friends and often offer the human compassion some students are lacking in their lives! Teachers cannot be replaced by machines.

We as parents need to show our support to our teachers that go above and beyond, that give freely of their own unpaid time to run bands, sports, plays, concerts and the many other unseen things they do. Teachers put our kids first, they spend many hours a day helping them not just learn book work but to develop into an awesome group of young people ready for real life!
