On June 3rd 2020 the Ontario Court of Appeal reversed Section 33.1 of the Criminal Code. This section, enacted in 1995, prevented anyone from claiming intoxication as a defense for sexual assault or violent crime. Reversing this section will allow criminals to use intoxication as a defense for sexual assaults & violent crime and this is unacceptable.
