Onslow County Residents Against Rezoning

Onslow County Residents Against Rezoning
The Issue
As a resident living off of Burgaw Highway, I am deeply concerned about the upcoming decision by the Onslow County Board of Commissioners regarding the rezoning of 2220 Burgaw Hwy in Jacksonville, NC. Like many of my neighbors, I know firsthand the challenges we already face with traffic congestion.
Our community has seen traffic on this corridor surge from 12,565 cars per day in 2024 to 13,152 cars per day in 2025, with nearly 10% of this traffic being commercial vehicles. The proposed rezoning intends to introduce more commercial establishments to this area, which would only exacerbate the issue.
This highway is not equipped to handle an influx of commercial traffic. It is a two-lane route with limited space for turning lanes, making it dangerous for both drivers and pedestrians. The current infrastructure does not support such an increase in traffic, and adding commercial entities is a recipe for potential accidents and traffic-related fatalities.
Moreover, the cost of living and commuting has been on the rise, placing additional stress on residents. The local community has opposed similar rezonings in the past, and despite our concerns, rezoning efforts continue against our will.
We must act responsibly and demand that the planning is consistent with the community's needs and safety. Protect the safety of our residents, prevent overflow traffic on our roads, and ensure responsible urban planning by voting against the rezoning proposal.
Please join us in voicing your opposition to this rezoning effort. Stand with us to protect our community from unnecessary risks and changes that do not benefit our long-term well-being. Sign this petition to stop Onslow County from moving forward with the rezoning of 2220 Burgaw Hwy.
