(ONLY SIGN THE PETITION DO NOT DONATE ON THIS SITE) Save CBU Wrestling
The Issue
ONLY SIGN THE PETITION DO NOT MAKE MONETARY CONTRIBUTIONS ON THIS SITE! California Baptist University wrestling is more than a team—it is the backbone of elite wrestling in Southern California. As the only Division I wrestling program in the region, CBU represents a beacon of opportunity for athletes who have dedicated their lives to this sport, and who have dreamed of pursuing excellence without having to leave their homes, their families, and their communities.
The proposal to eliminate the CBU wrestling program doesn’t just cut a roster. It threatens the livelihood of the Regional Training Center (RTCs), forces world-class coaches to seek opportunities elsewhere, and jeopardizes the entire future of wrestling on the West Coast. The ripple effects of this decision are profound, affecting not just current team members, but the countless aspiring wrestlers and wrestling enthusiasts who look up to CBU as a model of collegiate wrestling excellence.
Wrestling cultivates values such as discipline, resilience, and teamwork—skills that are integral to personal and professional success. Without the CBU wrestling program, many young athletes will lose their platform to shine and grow. Furthermore, CBU wrestling has consistently contributed to the university's spirit and community pride, drawing students, faculty, and locals together in support of our athletes.
We recognize the financial and administrative challenges faced by the university. However, instead of a complete termination, we urge the administration to consider alternative solutions that could sustain the program. This might include a push for increased alumni support, partnerships with local businesses, or initiating a fundraising campaign specifically for the wrestling team.
By signing this petition, you stand with the wrestlers, coaches, and community advocates who believe in the transformative power of this sport. Your support can make a difference in reviving discussions around this issue and potentially saving a program that is integral to our Southern Californian sports landscape.
Beyond the college program, CBU is the foundation of the West Coast Regional Training Center. The RTC, led by world-class coaches, develops athletes from youth through elite levels and plays a critical role in advancing USA Wrestling on the West Coast. With the 2028 Olympic Games coming to Southern California, eliminating CBU Wrestling and the RTC would be a devastating step backward at the exact moment we should be investing in Olympic development, not dismantling it.
Wrestling needs to grow, not shrink. CBU Wrestling must stand—for its athletes, for Southern California, and for the future of American wrestling on the world stage.
Please sign this petition to help preserve the legacy and future of wrestling at CBU, and ensure that all athletes have the opportunity to pursue their passion right here in their home community.
