Only 100 Left in the Wild - Save the Chittenango Ovate Amber Snail!

The Issue

Hello! We are the New York Environmental Youth Council, and we are looking to propose the Chittenango Ovate Amber Snail (Novisuccinea chittenangoensis) as the state gastropod.

Endemic to the Chittenango State Park of Madison County, NY, the Chittenango ovate amber snail is a critically endangered amber snail with a suspected 100 individuals left in the wild. They are threatened by floods, droughts, landslides, invasive species, climate change, and poaching.

If we are able to successfully implement this species as our state gastropod, we are hoping to see more funding go into research as well as measures to protect their habitat (sanctioning off areas, more patrolling to curb poaching, etc.) This will also allow us to launch another campaign for this species in an effort to promote conservation whether it be by funding or public education.

Please help us protect one of New York's few endemic species and sign this petition.
