James Tammaro started this petition to Federal Trade Commission and

The consumers of online retail products have the right to clearly know where a particular product is being manufactured from, as well as where the company selling the product is based.

More and more product listings within online retail marketplaces show images of American flags and other references to the United States, with the sole purpose to make the consumer think they are buying from the U.S.  Only through the posting of questions, or further online searches, can a consumer get to the truth. In many cases, it is found that the company and/or products are actually manufactured outside of the United States.

Many consumers are being fooled by these misleading listings, and It is the responsibility of the online retailers and the FTC to provide a safe marketplace for their consumers.  "The Fair Packaging and Labeling Act (FPLA or Act), enacted in 1967, directs the Federal Trade Commission and the Food and Drug Administration to issue regulations requiring that all "consumer commodities" be labeled to disclose net contents, identity of commodity, and name and place of business of the product's manufacturer, packer, or distributor.  This should also be required, enforced, and expanded to include ALL online product listings.

To remove any ambiguity on where a company and its products are from, and to allow consumers of online products to make more informed purchases, we are asking that the FTC either require this of all online retailers, or the companies themselves (Amazon, Walmart, Target, Ebay, and many others) use good judgement and require this of all listings on their respective marketplaces.
