Ongoing Noise Disruption from Rescue Helicopters – Community Concerns

Ongoing Noise Disruption from Rescue Helicopters – Community Concerns
The issue
I am writing to express our growing concern and frustration regarding the frequent noise disturbance caused by rescue helicopters flying over our neighbourhood, particularly during the night.
Over recent weeks and months, these helicopters have been flying low over our homes, often hovering before landing, creating a significant and repeated disruption to our sleep and daily lives. Just last night, we were woken twice by the noise – a pattern that is becoming distressingly familiar. While some members of our household can return to sleep eventually, others are left awake and unsettled for the remainder of the night.
We fully understand and appreciate the critical role of emergency services and the need to act swiftly to save lives. However, we question whether every flight needs to pass so low directly above residential areas, especially during late hours. Given that helicopters are designed to take off and land vertically, could flight paths be adjusted to minimise disruption to those living directly underneath?
This ongoing situation is not only causing stress and sleep deprivation, but also beginning to affect our overall wellbeing. It's also raising concerns about the future livability and property values in our area. As residents, we already contend with aircraft noise, construction, and general urban sounds – but the intensity, frequency, and timing of these helicopter flights have reached a level that feels unreasonable and unsustainable.
It feels as though this situation has been imposed on us without consultation or consideration for the community impacted. We would like to open a dialogue with council to explore whether any measures can be taken to reduce the frequency or intensity of these disruptions, particularly during nighttime hours.
We have created this petition so residents can express their shared concerns. We hope this will prompt the council and relevant authorities to take a closer look at this issue and work with the community toward a more balanced solution.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Yours sincerely,
