Ongoing Crisis in Bangladesh

Ongoing Crisis in Bangladesh
The Issue
Recently, we lost a valuable member of our community, an alumni, Jahiduzzaman Tanvin who was tragically killed during the ongoing unrest in Bangladesh. This news not only left us devastated but also opened our eyes to the alarming situation of human rights in the country. The government's violent crack-down on protests is causing innocent lives to be lost and silencing voices demanding reform. Amnesty International reported in their review that at least 174+ people were killed and numerous others injured in politically motivated violence [source: Amnesty International]. The true scale of the crisis remains unknown due to under-reporting and the climate of fear. This must change. We ask the international community to acknowledge the current situation in Bangladesh, and investigate this matter urgently. Let's bring justice and peace to the people of Bangladesh. We urge you to sign this petition; every signature counts and brings us one step closer to our goal.
Shaheed Zahiduzzaman Tanvin, a 24-year-old young man who lost his life to the bullets of the ruthless during the ongoing crisis in Bangladesh on Jul 18, 2024.
As inhabitants of this world, it is our collective responsibility to nurture and protect the young minds who hold the key to our future. These bright young individuals, filled with boundless potential and innovative ideas, are our hope for a better tomorrow. We must ensure that their brilliance is not extinguished by injustice or violence, but instead, given the opportunity to flourish and make the world a better place. The tragic loss of such a genius is not just a personal sorrow but a setback for humanity's progress.
Shaheed Jahiduzzaman Tanvin, a 24-year-old young man, lost his life to the brutal bullets of the authoritarian government of Bangladesh during the ongoing crisis on July 18, 2024. Reflecting on his life stirs a profound mix of emotions within us. At times, we are left in awe of his accomplishments; other times, we are filled with envy, questioning what we had achieved at his age. Our hearts swell with pride for his contributions, and at other moments, we find ourselves shedding tears uncontrollably. We are certain you will experience the same emotions and will question " isn't it a story of a star born" ?
2015: Secondary School Certificate - GPA 5
2017: Higher Secondary School Certificate - GPA 5
2018: First Year in University, won "The Best Ship Design" in the national "Model Ship Propulsion Competition" organized by BUET (Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology) Naval Department.
2019: Second Year in University, won second prize in the National "Soccer Bot Competition" organized by BUET Mechanical Department.
2020: Won two awards in the prestigious Institute of Mechanical Engineers (iMechE) UAS (Unmanned Aerial System) International competition. Their project was to use their UAS system to deliver emergency services in flood and cyclone affected area.(Photos and links are provided; it’s because of this boy that the name of Bangladesh shone among so many renowned foreign universities.)
2021: Won the Best Design Award in the same UAS competition. Elected Chair for IUT (Islamic University of Technology) Student Chapter of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers, iMechE.
Tanvin was not just a brilliant student; he was a beacon of hope and a symbol of the potential that lies within our youth. As the Chief Technical Officer (CTO) of ANTS, the country’s only Unmanned Aerial System company, he and his friends won grants from the Bangabandhu Innovation Grant and were working on demos with the Bangladesh Army. They also was working with Dhaka Water Supply Autority ( WASA) to map their facilities.
The most significant thing was that Tanvin was selflessly distributing his knowledge in schools and colleges across this underprivileged country to inspire the new generation. He gave lectures on UAS systems at St. Joseph and Notre Dame Science Club, sharing his expertise freely.
This Tanvin, highly skilled in AutoCAD (https://grabcad.com/library/b-16-1 and SolidWorks, was a Senior Instructor at the CAD Society. Every technical university has a particular area of expertise, and for IUT, it was the MARS ROVER team. In the competition organized by NASA every year for a special vehicle to operate on Mars, the IUT MARS ROVER TEAM always won something. Tanvin was the Design and Mechanical Lead for this MARS ROVER TEAM.
His elder sister lives abroad, so Tanvin chose to stay and care for his elderly parents. "Look, Mom, the startup is progressing, let's do something here in Bangladesh," he would say with a smile. On the day of the incident, Tanvin had gone out to withdraw money for his mother from the bank. With a heart full of conscience, he attended the protest on his way. Imagine the anguish of a mother seeing her son's bullet-ridden body on a hospital bed a while later.
A boy like Tanvin is one in a million. It is the responsibility of the state to preserve such talents. Instead, live bullets were fired towards these unarmed young souls. Can you comprehend how horrifying that is?
Humanity lost a young invaluable young soul who can be next tech leader of the world. We certainly fail as a human.
What answer do you have? What answer can we give to the future kids
