The Issue
Dear Peacebuilder,
Imagine yourself living in a nation where you can’t meet your family, and where people North side suffer in poverty deprived of liberty and human rights. How would you feel? Will you truly be able to live a happy life even if you're living in prosperity? Korea, as the only divided nation in the world experience this predicament of more than 70-year division of the Korean peninsula. This has undermined global security, separated a people with a shared heritage, and perpetuated a humanitarian crisis in the North. The two Koreas, North and South, are technically still at war, and the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) that separates them is one of the most heavily fortified borders in the world.
Despite of Korea being divided, the Korean Wave has swept the globe in recent years. The Philippines is no exception, and Hallyu has had a significant impact on the country's culture and society.
The Philippines and South Korea have a strong and long-standing relationship. The two countries have been diplomatic allies since 1949, and their relationship was further strengthened during the Korean War, when the Philippines sent 7,420 soldiers to help South Korea defend itself against North Korea. In recent years, the Philippines and South Korea have deepened their cooperation in a number of areas, including trade, investment, tourism, and security. The two countries have a strong people-to-people relationship. There are over 100,000 Koreans living in the Philippines, and over 1 million Filipinos have visited South Korea in recent years.
Built upon the momentum of the One Korea Global Campaign in 2015 supported by Action for Korea United, the largest civil society coalition advancing Korean unification, and several K-pop personalities, the One Korea Global Campaign came about in the Philippines. This campaign is a grassroots movement for unity and social change promoting a global effort for Korean Unification and global peace.

Through the One Korea Global Campaign Special Initiatives of Global Peace Foundation Philippines, we advocate North and South Korea's Peaceful Reunification in the Philippines. To move the Korean people that "One Korea" is a global issue that we, as Filipinos, are not just concern about but willing to partake on.
This petition was started to call on every peace-loving global citizen to show our earnest support to One Korea Global Campaign; to spread awareness and gather more support as part of an effort to contribute to the “10 Million Men March” on 2025 in Korea’s DMZ for the realization of the “Korean Dream”.
