The issue

Lakemba Mosque is seeking approval to broadcast the Friday Adhan through loudspeakers for no longer than three minutes, once a week. The proposal includes acoustic controls and is intended to serve the spiritual needs of the local Muslim community while respecting surrounding residents.

Please sign this petition to support a fair, balanced and respectful outcome for Lakemba Mosque and the wider community.

This is not about noise. This is about belonging.

For generations, Lakemba Mosque has been more than a building. It has been a place where families gather, where children grow up connected to faith, where elders find comfort, where new migrants find community and where thousands of Australian Muslims come together every Friday in peace.

The Friday Adhan is not a political statement. It is not an act of division. It is a short, sacred call to prayer - a reminder of faith, humility, discipline and community.

In a suburb shaped by many cultures, many languages and many traditions, the Adhan is part of Lakemba’s living identity.

The request is simple and reasonable: once a week, on Fridays, for 3 minutes at midday, under proper acoustic controls, in a way that respects both worshippers and residents.

Muslim Australians are your neighbours, workers, parents, volunteers, business owners, ratepayers and citizens. Their faith and culture should not be treated as foreign when they are part of the social fabric of modern Australia.
