ZModeler 2 filters supported in ZModeler 3.
The Issue
I've been using ZModeler 3 for almost 3 years, i've learned the basics of modelling with it, i've even gone onto more advanced programs because of it. But, one of the biggest things that lets ZModeler 3 down is the fact that older filters (Filters are what ZModeler 3/2 uses to understand model formats) are not supported in ZModeler 3.
As a creator who is used to the ZModeler 3 UI / ability to do semi complicated tasks without the program bugging out (most of the time) Moving to ZModeler 2 to try and mod older games was and is a really hard thing for me to do (And wasn't possible, i never took it up, because the program is too difficult to use). Not only this, but other creators need the ability to transfer 3D era models to the new era without losing important information (Like UV channels / vertex paint) The point of this petition is to add support for older ZModeler 2 filters. .DFF / .WFT / 3dg (tdu1/tdu2) and more to ZModeler 3, with these filters added ZModeler 3 will be bigger and better than before. With support for older modding scenes, the modern world can take this on and keep it alive for years to come. Doing this will also attract more people to ZModeler 3 (the entire ZModeler 2 Community / Original ZModeler Customers)
Of course there are some downsides, as with anything. Oleg is a soul developer of ZModeler 3 and works very hard to keep it updated, supporting new shaders when a Grand Theft Auto 5 update releases etc. He has told me himself that adding support for these older filters would not be a small task. Although the model reverse engineering is done already the material generation for each and every one of the filters would have to be re-done from scratch. (It is also likely that the LOD handler would need to be re-written for these models too since ZModeler 3 handles LOD's differently to ZModeler 2)
In conclusion, although there are some downsides to this (mainly the pressure on Oleg to add support for this stuff) I feel that if we can show enough demand for these filters, Oleg may decide that it is worth it to add these filters to ZModeler 3. Thank you all for reading -13Stewartc
