The two arterial roads running through Old Town Manassas (Church St. and Center St.) are way to wide for a thriving downtown district. My proposal is to make the streets more pleasant to be on by (1. adding shade (2. adding interesting things on the street like street furniture and (3. removing a lane of car traffic.

Since these streets are branches of Route 28, this needs approval from VDOT, but with enough support, we can get this plan inacted. It may even make money for the city.

Update: the new plan for a rail trail from Manassas to Alexandria would give a new route for pedestrians to reach the historic center. Because of the people that would be coming from the cities on the line. These new people coming to Old Town will need places to walk safely. This plan would provide that extra space.
