Mandatory Breaks for Oklahoman Workers
The Issue
Many people are under the misconception that employers in Oklahoma are required to give breaks to their employees, but this is not the case. Under Oklahoma labor laws, any laborer over the age of sixteen is not entitled to a break, and the assignment of one is the complete decision of the company a worker belongs to. The inability to properly assure rest during a shift impacts a worker’s ability to perform his/her/their duties in a timely, orderly, and safe manner. The mental, as well as physical health of Oklahoma workers during a shift would be dramatically improved if given the necessary time to safely consume a meal representative of the amount calories expended during a shift.
