Due to the actions taken in response to COVID-19, The Ohio State University made an announcement that all future coursework would be done through virtual learning. We applaud the University for taking proactive measures in the interest of students’ and facultys’ health and well being. However, the transition to virtual learning is not any easy one for all students. Providing the option to students to move to a pass/fail grading scale would lessen the burden put on both students and faculty. It is especially crucial to take into account that many students will no longer have access to the learning tools they need such as services from the SLDS (Student Learning and Disability Services) , and that many may be making a transition to a place where they are heavily burdened economically or socially or just do not have access to the technology necessary to complete their coursework. It also provides the mandated flexibility to faculty to work with students facing these challenges. The decision to move to a pass/fail option should be done expediently in order to ease stress and allow for clear understanding of what is expected
