change the rabies vaccine laws in ohio

change the rabies vaccine laws in ohio

The Issue

Over vaccination of pets is harmful to and/or killing pets.

http://www.shirleys-wellness-cafe.com/AnimalWellness/Petvacc.aspx and http://vitalanimal.com/vaccination-safety/  and http://www.dogsnaturallymagazine.com/rabies-vaccination-and-aggression-in-dogs/  and    http://www.dogs4dogs.com/blog/2008/06/18/20/ ;

According to such websites, as the ones I'm listing here, vaccines in pets are way over done.

I have had a few pets die from seizures or other chronic illnesses triggered by vaccines myself.

I recommend you take a look at www.rabieschallengefund.org and get ohio's laws to match that. That the rabies vaccine be done only once in a dog's lifetime, titer tests done thereafter to see how strong the immunity is. This way, we can avoid harming pets.

Especially needed for dogs who are Working Dogs, such as Service Dogs who can NOT afford to ever be accused of being aggressive (and rabies vaccinated dogs do develop aggression similar to the virus itself!!). This causes their handler-owner to then have to lose their help and either find another dog to train to help them or go without. Which is not fair to the human part of the Service Dog Team at all. Especially since most disabled people that I know who have Service Dogs or Service Dogs in Training can not afford things very easily and so losing the dog for any signs of aggression is just not ok. These people need these dogs. ALL animals required to get this vaccine, not just Working Dogs, should be added to a database after getting ONE rabies vaccination, and then be EXEMPT from having anymore. Use Titer Tests if in doubt, but still EXEMPT, regardless of titer test results.

Case in point, I am owner training my Service Dog (in Training) who recently got her rabies vaccine updated and she has a slight lump at the injection site that just hasn't gone away and seems painful to the touch. And it's been a month and a half. So very concerned. Yet the vet doesn't want to admit there may be something wrong. I'm feeling very frustrated. She is two years old and I figure, based on my research, she is and should be immune for life now. Especially since the previous owners told me she'd just had it updated three weeks before I'd got her (Feb. 2015).
