The Issue
My brother, Mike, and his best friend Ronnie, were killed by this man in 19 81. It was 4 days after Christmas to be exact. Ronnie and my brother met him in a bar and offered him a ride. (There were claims that there were drugs involved, but the autopsy showed that neither one of the boys, Mike nor Ronnie, had any drugs in their system although they had both been drinking.) Alan Zak pulled a gun from the back seat, and shot Mike first, execution-style, on the left side of the back of his head coming out his right temple. Ronnie couldn't get out of the car because his door was wired shut and he was driving. This was at the West 130th overpass on 71 in Cleveland. Ronnie ran into a guardrail. Alan Zak then shot Ronnie, execution-style, on the right side of the back of his head coming out his left temple. He dragged my brother Mike into the back seat, then got into the front seat, and tried driving from the passenger side. He managed to make it to the West 150th exit on 71. He made it off the exit to the underpass where he crashed. He wasn't able to get it started again. Another man stopped to help. Alan Zak shot him, also, in the arm. The man thought quickly enough to dive under the car. Alan Zak took off running, and the man that stopped to help ran to a nearby Denny's to call for help. He'll forever be my angel, but he was too late. I'm not going to pretend to know all the details. I have, on the other hand, read the police file several times over. I've read all the leads, all of the interviews, all of the follow-ups, I've read autopsy reports, I've even read the arrest report. I read how, when they found him a year after the murders, he still had the bloody clothes stashed in the back of a vehicle that he was in.
I've done my research and my due diligence. I am not an evil person. If I thought that he was, in any way, rehabilitated I would not be pushing to keep him incarcerated. But I do not believe that. He was sentenced to two consecutive life terms +15 yrs. I do not feel safe knowing that he would be out mingling among the people of the world knowing that he has never sought help after killing two people in cold blood. I know that since he's been in prison he has not sought mental help. He has not sought an education. He has not sought out the Lord or any other kind of religion. He has, in no way, looked for a way to better himself to reenter the world. He has never ever shown any kind of remorse.
Please help me to be sure that Justice is served. Help me to make sure that my family and your family is safe. Alan Zak is a cold-blooded killer.
