|Ohio| Celebrate "Hang On Sloopy" 60th Anniversary with Joint Marching Band Performances

The Issue

I am a resident of Steubenville, Ohio, a graduate of Steubenville High School, and an Ohioan proud of my hometown and state. To honor the legacy of Dorothy Sloop, the jazz singer from Steubenville who inspired The McCoy's hit song "Hang On Sloopy," we propose a special celebration for its 60th anniversary. We want to see the Ohio State University Marching Band and the Steubenville Big Red Marching Band perform together.

Our vision is for these bands to unite during two significant events: first, at a Friday night game in Steubenville where Ohio State would join Big Red; second, at halftime during a Saturday game in Columbus where Big Red would join Ohio State. This collaboration not only honors Dorothy Sloop but also celebrates our shared musical heritage.
