I am a previous student at Kings High School, and have experienced an incident that has left me and others shocked and deeply hurt. Our principal, Doug Leist, used the N-word during a meeting and once more towards a student. While this may have been a while ago it’s still very important. Despite my attempts to address this issue through proper channels, instead of taking appropriate action against him, the school administration threatened to sue me and even call the police.

This is not just about one incident or one person; it's about creating an environment where every student feels safe and respected. The use of racial slurs in any context is unacceptable - especially so in an educational setting where we are supposed to be learning respect for all individuals regardless of their race or ethnicity.

According to research by UCLA’s Civil Rights Project (2019), students who experience racism are more likely to struggle acadically and suffer from mental health issues. This kind of behavior from someone in a position of authority can have long-lasting negative effects on students' wellbeing.

We cannot allow this kind of behavior from our educators who should be setting positive examples for us. We demand that Principal Doug Leist be dismissed immediately for his inappropriate use of racial slurs within our school environment.
