The Issue

The future of Health and Social Care and Child Development is in jeopardy because 2 organisations are not working in the best interests of the young people studying these subjects.

Pupils who have lost over 50 hours of school time are still expected to complete the same amount of work, even though they have to complete it all at school.

The qualifications are Cambridge National Health and Social Care and Child Development Level 1&2 the awarding body is OCR.

The specification for the qualification states the candidates can only complete the work in school in supervised conditions with time guidelines.

I have worked out my pupils have missed over 50 hours of this time; this will be fairly average across the country.

OCR put a proposal together to compensate for the time lost; which meant pupils were unable to do their work; on the 5th Nov 2020 this proposal was rejected by Ofqual, meaning that the pupils are now expected to complete all of the work scheduled for a non-disrupted year.

This has and will cause sever well-being and mental health issues for both staff and pupils. Neither Ofqual or ORC are taking any responsibility for this, which means the young people who want a career in Health and Social Care are being treated appallingly and their actions will have an effect on their health and furture career choices.
