The flag listed as the official Juneteenth flag is a red, white, and blue flag with a bursting star in the middle of it. Representing many of  things, this flag has the colors blue and red positioned to mimic the sky horizon and the ground, with red being at the bottom to represent a bloody ground, blue for the sky, and a curved arch for the horizon. The bursting star in the middle representing, via Wikipedia, the arising opportunities for black people that came with the freedom of the enslaved black population. The chosen colors are also to be in association with the U.S. flag. The listed official Juneteenth flag does not feel in representation of the black community or the freedom we obtained on June 19th. The flag does not give off the message in the celebration that we would like it to. It is also interpreted in many different ways (the star in the middle being the North Star, etc). We want a more direct unified interpretation and message of the Juneteenth flag. We are petitioning for the Red, Black, and Green to be the one and only official Juneteenth flag. The flag that we are all more familiar with viewing and feel truly represents the Black Community for Juneteenth. If the official flag does not change, then it will be seen as a blatant act of disrespect to the entire black nation and celebration of the termination of slavery. The changing of the official flag will accomplish one step closer of the American nation becoming more cultured, inspiring black awareness, and taking a step closer to equal respect in this country by having a proper and perfect flag representing Juneteenth, the celebration of enslaved Black people being set free.
