COVID-19 has got everyone and everything in a halt state. Entire country is in Lockdown since 25th March 2020 and the lockdown continues till date. Offices, Markets, School, Colleges and any such place where people might gather are closed. People are at home out of jobs and don’t know how things will turn up after the Lockdown is over.

 

One of the many problems is about the Schooling for children. Some Schools have started online (WhatsApp or Zoom) classes. This is a good initiative and will help to cover the syllabus.

 

Due to lockdown source of income for many is stopped. Parents are worried about the school fee and are very much confused as well to pay or not. There is different information from media and social media being circulate. Some says that few schools have waived the complete fee for 3 months (Apr-Jun 2020), few schools have waived half fee.

 

From a newspaper website “Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh governments have announced that schools should not pressurize parents to pay fees during the lockdown. However, there is no clarity among parents about whether no fees will be charged during the period or they will have to be paid later.”

 

So, what is the problem?

 

1.       In this situation Schools are asking to deposit the fee (not the real problem), they are also adding so many charges like Annual Charges, Medical Fee, Computer Fee, Library fee, Building Charges, Tuition Fee, Smart Class fee, maintenance Charges etc.

2.       Schools are asking for full tuition fee whereas they are running classes only for around 1 hour that too for 1 or 2 subjects in a day.

3.       Parents take all the burden to complete the classwork, homework and practice.

4.       From where do I pay the fee to school if my source of income is not there?

 

So, what is the solution?

 

Solution can be full fee waived off, but this is not a good solution. However, It will be really a great relief to parents if school waives off the extra charges they are taking and some part of tuition fee.

 

A question may arise from School authorities about salaries of their staff, I believe that the amount of tuition fee they take from parents can help them to pay the salaries.
