Promote Aurangabad as Major Tourist Destination of India
The Issue
The state Government's advertisement on the occasion of World Tourism Day had no mention of Aurangabad, which is considered the tourism capital of Maharashtra.
Aurangabad is famed for the two world-heritage sites of Ajanta and Ellora caves. In addition, tourists sites of the centuries-old water mills at Panchakki, historical gates, Bibi-ka-Maqbara, Daulatabad fort make it a popular draw among tourists from across the world.
Aurangabad First would like to request to Government of Maharashtra to take following issues for improvement of Tourism sector in Aurangabad.
1. Ajanta, Ellora are included in the 'Iconic Sites' project, but the work is not started yet. State government should take initiative in this project and request GoI to give funds for maintenance, conservation of these caves.
2. State Government should strive to get UNESCO Heritage City tag for city as promised.
3. Proper International quality signage and information boards guiding tourists to various monuments.
4. Development of heritage walk and sightseeing of various gates, monuments and bazaars.
5. Development of Aurangabad Haat in old city area where tourists can shop, eat, rest and walk around the place to experience the old quarter on foot.
6. Special courses on tourism in city colleges and ITIs for development of language and soft skills to generate employment.
7. Shifting of Zoo to spacious location. Development of Golf Club and Safari park near Mitmita. Utilizing Siddharth zoo space to showcase 2000 year old historical timeline of Aurangabad district. Development of Aurangabad museum to be the main attraction for tourists in city.
8. Development of Exhibition cum Convention Centre at Aurangabad which can host international level exhibitions in city. Promoting Aurangabad as a destination for business meetings, seminars and conferences.
9. Development of Highspeed Rail and Road connectivity which can improve tourist inflow and make Aurangabad more accessible to domestic and international travelers.
10. Development of Aurangabad Airport Airport and making available international connectivity especially to Buddhist Countries, Europe and Middle East.
