Off Leash Dog Park

The Issue

Dear Bonnie Crombie

I hope this email finds you well. With election coming up I am sure you are very busy with the campaign and wish you luck.

I am reaching out on behalf of myself and many other residents who are eager to see continued improvements in our neighborhood that cater to the entire family, pets included.

It has been wonderfuI to watch our community flourish with additions like the basketball court and skateboard park, providing children with safe spaces to play and socialize. These changes have truly enhanced our area and brought people together. However, there remains a gap when it comes to spaces for our four-legged family members.

Our pets are an integral part of our families, and we believe a dedicated, safe, fenced-in dog park would greatly benefit everyone in our community. This would provide a safe environment for dogs to exercise, socialize, and play without disrupting other public spaces. It would also foster connections among pet owners, strengthening the sense of community.

There is ample greenspace in our area that could complement existing trails and parks. Many families, including my own, welcomed pets during  COVID and the the off leash parks in our area are over crowded and not within walking distance of Glen Erin and Burnhamthorpe.

Having engaged with many fellow dog owners in the area, I cannot overstate the enthusiasm for a solution—a space where dogs can run freely and safely with a growing need for a designated dog park in our neighborhood this makes it increasingly challenging for our furry friends to get adequate outdoor exercise.

The City did recently buy Kings Masting School and from what I understand it will be turned into a new park in the next few years. I have almost 1000 supporters that would really appreciate your consideration in making this a dog park or what ever you think is viable in our area.

Warm regards,

Serina Galea
