Off Leash Dog Beach For Duranbah Beach, Tweed Heads

The issue

Let’s make Duranbah Beach an off leash dog beach again. (Please note this does not include mini Duranbah)

The local Tweed/Coolangatta area does not have an off leash dog beach. This is necessary for dogs to have a place to cool off in the water in hot summer months, get proper off leash exercise and to be social with other dogs.

Duranbah Beach is the perfect off leash dog location.
1. It is a known dangerous beach that is unsafe for swimming meaning fewer people attend this beach. Very few number of families attend this beach.

2. It is a surfing beach. The majority of people at the beach are in the water surfing rather than on land.

3. It has ample space for dogs and people.

4. Everyone already considers Duranbah to be a dog beach. People who come to this beach are happy to have the dogs. It should continue to be a dog beach without the hefty $333 fine.

4. It has become a dangerous and unkept beach that is not a great place for beach goers but good for dogs.

  • there are many dangerous logs, sticks and debris from storms that council has done a poor job of cleaning.
  • there is now a growing homeless population at the beach
  • council has even left a rotting cow on the beach for weeks in the past. This is not a beach council cares about or is properly maintained for beach goer safety.

Duranbah beach is the perfect location for a dog beach in the Tweed area. At the very least it should have off leash hours of 5pm-8am.

If you would like to see Duranbah Beach reinstated as an off leash dog beach please sign this petition and it will be taken to local council.
