As a disabled person in Ontario, I know first hand the struggles. A single person on ODSP gets $1169 a month...Rent on a bachelor apt is roughly $800+ a month. That leaves $369 for bills, groceries, and essentials. Now...Doug Ford has announced his plan to increase that by 5%. A whopping $58 a month. That wouldn't even cover my Service Dogs food, let alone food for myself with the increases in food we've been seeing. OW recipients get $733 a month. (Note: These are just single person rates, not parental rates. I'll include the full list of amounts.)

However, he can hold 1.3k a person golf events, weddings etc. 

The disabled community is literally crumbling around us, but we've got options, right? Affordable housing? Nope, not that one. Affordable food? Nope, not that either. I get it now...MAID! Medical Assistance In Dying. This is what was offered...and is already being signed up for by some...because they can't find affordable housing. They can't afford expensive medical care. They can't get PROPER mental health treatments...unless they are rich enough.(Which we all know isn't an option. Clearly.) So instead of doubling rates, which according to statistics $2000 is what's considered a decent, livable amount in Ontario, we get a whole $58 bringing us to $1227 a month. How sweet.

Doug Ford needs to step up and do WAY better. We need ODSP and OW increased to at minimum...$2000, since that's what's considered livable. Maybe if he lived in our shoes for a month, Doug Ford might have a better understanding of why...his measly 5% increase is nowhere near suitable, or helpful. Doug Ford, you need to step up and do whats right. I'm not even getting into other major issues here like accessibility in buildings being a must. Mental health care needing a HUGE upgrade. Healthcare in general needing a revamp...Those are issues I'll tackle in other petitions. 

Please sign and lend your voices, to those in need. Let's show Doug Ford what real community is about, and how a REAL leader...should treat the people, he's in charge of caring for.
