Make Designated Areas for Ocean Life

Make Designated Areas for Ocean Life
The Issue
Several species such as types of sea turtles, whales, and sharks are endangered not because of other animals, but for the reason of humans. It is our job as humans to protect these animals. Due to commercial fishing and hunting these species end up getting killed and are eventually classified as endangered species. Adding on, there are several types of marine pollution that humans cause, which harm ocean wildlife. Giving ocean animals separate, non disturbed areas will increase their chances of living. One form of pollution is chemical pollution, which is everyday common man-made products. This includes pesticides, detergents, oil, industrial chemicals, and raw sewage that ends up in the ocean. All of these products trigger massive algae build up, which robs the ocean water of oxygen, leaving several innocent animals to die. Another common type of pollution is plastic pollution. The amount of plastic that has ended up in the Atlantic Ocean has nearly tripled since the 1960s. The main culprit is single-use plastics such as water bottles, plastic bags, and wrappers. These types of materials resemble everyday foods that ocean animals eat. For example, sea turtles eat jellyfish and when they see a plastic bag, the turtle believes it is a jellyfish and eats it. Once an animal eats any kind of plastic, the plastic will release toxins into their body and if the piece of plastic is sharp enough, it could potentially cause the animal could internally or externally bleed out. There are about 2,270 species listed as endangered or threatened globally under the United States Endangered Species Act. About 150 of them live in waters of the U.S. These species that are endangered do more than we think for our ecosystems and food chains. They protect overpopulation, by controlling the population of small ocean creatures. The goal is to help animals become taken off of the endangered species list and give them a fighting chance at life. It is also to preserve the wildlife and natural beauty of Earth. Help save our Earth and make it a better place. Making designated areas for ocean animals will lower endangerment of marine animal life and our Earth will stay prettier for longer.
