Cada año son abandonados unos 50.000 perros destinados a la caza en España. Canarias es una de las peores comunidades autónomas en número de casos de maltrato y abandono animal, y concretamente en perros de caza. 
Los Cabildos Insulares tienen entre sus obligaciones las referidas en el D 42/03 que reglamenta la Ley 7/98 de Caza de Canarias. “Art.56. Los Cabildos Insulares llevarán un registro y control de los perros y demás animales auxiliares para la caza...” Y que ningún Cabildo cumple.

Por lo que, exijo que el Cabildo de Lanzarote active de forma inmediata y eficaz el servicio de registro y control de los perros de caza y demás animales auxiliares, según les obliga la Ley, un registro y control que refleje un censo actualizado de perros de caza y animales auxiliares, con las altas y bajas, con los documentos justificativos correspondientes, cartillas, nº chip, DNI del propietario, así como certificado veterinario de cada baja.

Recordando que la inacción del Cabildo de Lanzarote ha provocado y provoca directa e indirectamente la muerte y maltrato de cientos de animales destinados a la caza cada año, con el agravante de su consideración actual de seres vivos sintientes según el articulo 333 bis de la actual Ley 17/2021, de 15 de diciembre, de modificación del Código Civil.
