Last chance to have your say !
The formal consultation for the Jesmond road closures road closures ends next Thursday on September 7th - so you’ve only got one week left to tell them what you think of the bollards and barricades.
Email the council a formal objection NOW !
The Jesmond bollards are going to cause absolute bedlam on the Coast road, Matthew Bank and around Jesmond when the schools go back - and we need your help to open the roads.
If you have a few minutes spare, email a formal objection to the council telling them why you don’t want the Jesmond road closures scheme to be made permanent.
email to: traffic.notices@newcastle.gov.uk
You must quote reference GH/P44/1317
Your email must state the grounds of the objection….
Maybe you’re a commuter who now wastes an extra half an hour each day on your commute, or you’re a tradesman who is stuck in traffic driving from job to job. You’re a taxi driver or you deliver parcels to Jesmond and Sandyford?
Maybe you're afraid that the local businesses who make Jesmond the vibrant place it is will go bust. Or you’re a local business owner who is fearing you’ll have to make some staff redundant unless the council reopens the roads.
Do you think that all this extra congestion will damage the city’s economy ? - after all forcing thousands of people to be stuck in a traffic jam every day can’t be good for the prosperity of the city can it ?
Maybe you’ve seen the ambulances getting stuck at the bollards, and wondering whether they will be stuck in a dead end when you need them most. Or you’re worried what happens if there’s a fire on your street and the Fire engine arrives on the wrong side of the barricade?
Maybe you’re worried about the masked youths on electric motorbikes who are now patrolling the blocked off streets of Jesmond now that the police cannot get through.
Maybe you’re older or disabled and you’re worried that it’s harder to get to the shops or the doctor’s surgery now the roads have all been blocked off.
Are you a carer who can no longer manage your caseload because you’re spending too much time getting between patients?
Are you a family who is thinking of packing up and moving because it’s now too difficult to get the kids to school and get to work on time.
Maybe you live next to a gridlocked main road and you’re concerned about the effect of all the added pollution on your health. And you’re wondering why the Council don’t seem to care.
What about the traffic lights at the bottom of Osborne Road; Do you think they have become more dangerous as a result of the snarl ups, with frustrated drivers trying turn right on red?
Do you think that the council will eventually try and use the chaos they created as an excuse to expand the congestion charge across the city?
And maybe you’re worried that the Jesmond bollards have divided the community by “solving a problem” which was never there in the first place.
Do you really think that the bollards make the city safer, greener and cleaner as the Council claim - or are they simply pushing yet more traffic onto main roads causing more congestion and pollution?
You will make a difference by sending a formal objection - the Council are legally obliged to consider it.
