The petition was recently presented to Newcastle Council for a full council debate. This was a key opportunity to present our objections to the road closures to nearly 100 councillors. The debate was covered in the Journal and Chronicle, and live-streamed. Read more about it here:

We’re approaching the end of the consultation period for the scheme and although the roads may have gone a little quieter for the summer, our campaigning and lobbying is very much ongoing.
We’ve recently produced our response to the Council’s interim report on the road closures which provides a detailed analysis of the problems the scheme is causing, and the failure of Newcastle Council to follow their statutory obligations. We are distributing our response to Councillors in Newcastle and MP’s in Westminster.
We still need your help to get rid of the bollards. So if you can spare a little time over the summer holidays it would be great if you could:
- Take a look at the OneJesmond.net website.
It’s full of information about our campaign to get rid of the bollards. The website outlines some of the other things that you can do to help if you have time, such as lodging an FOI request or making a formal complaint about the scheme to the Council. - Follow us on Facebook and Twitter to keep up to speed with events as they unfold.
- Remember to post a complaint on commonplace if you haven’t done so already.
- And please get one more friend or colleague who opposes the current scheme to sign the petition (remember to remind them to check their email to confirm their signature - or it won’t count) .
Every petition signature and commonplace comment counts.
Thank you for supporting democracy in Newcastle.
