Objection to Planning Application 26/00510/FLL – Newtyle Quarry
The Issue
Newtyle Quarry near Dunkeld is facing a new planning application (26/00510/FLL) that would reintroduce industrial activity, including crushing and screening operations.
A similar proposal was already refused in November 2025 due to serious concerns about its impact. Despite this, the developer has resubmitted the application.
Local residents have repeatedly raised concerns about:
• Airborne dust, including silica, which poses potential health risks
• Increased heavy vehicle traffic, affecting safety and local roads
• Noise pollution, impacting quality of life
There is also no clear control over how long this activity could continue, meaning the site risks being tied up in industrial use for years to come.
This proposal would have real and lasting impacts on the local community and environment, yet it fails to meaningfully address the concerns that led to its previous refusal.
We are calling for this application to be rejected again to protect the health, wellbeing, and future of the area.
As the Scottish Dry Tooling Club, we are launching this petition because Newtyle Quarry is not just a local site—it is a place of national importance to our community. For many years, it has been one of Scotland’s most unique and valuable climbing and training venues.
We are getting involved because this decision will determine whether the site remains tied up in industrial use for years to come, or whether there is a future for it as a safe, accessible outdoor space for recreation and sport.
We are asking the wider climbing community—and anyone who cares about protecting outdoor spaces in Scotland—to stand with us.
By signing this petition, you are:
Supporting the local community in raising legitimate concerns about health, environment, and quality of life
Helping ensure that this proposal is properly scrutinised and not simply approved as a repeat application
Adding weight to the case that this site matters—not just locally, but nationally
If we don’t speak up now, we risk losing this place for good.
