Object to planning submission at North Leigh Park - A/26/100520/RMMAJ

The Issue

In the heart of our community, further, proposed development threatens local Wildlife that many cherish and Land many utilise as a place of solace.

Wigan Council have received an Approval of reserved matters (layout, scale, appearance and landscaping) pursuant to outline planning permission A/12/76665 (as amended) for the erection of 1491 dwellings on North Leigh Development Site, Between A577 Corner Lane Smallbrook Lane To The North; A578 Leigh Road To The West; Nel Pan Lane To The South; Lovers Lane To The East.

If approved, this would obliterate crucial habitats for countless species that call this area home. The area designated for development provides essential sanctuary for a diverse range of British Native Wildlife including various birds, mammals, and plant species. This land is home to Roe Deer, Foxes, Hare and Buzzards and although not highlighted in Natural England guidance on Principal Species of Importance, many other species are present that are protected such as Eels, Common Toads and Great Crested Newts have not been correctly identified on this submission. This land is crucial not only for the survival of these species but also in maintaining the biodiversity that is vital for a healthy environment - on land that has become its own Rewilding Project, after being reclaimed by Nature.

Development on this site could lead to the fragmentation of habitats and the displacement of wildlife, some of which are already declining due to human activities across the borough. This precious wildlife corridor, which acts as a natural buffer against environmental degradation, must be conserved to maintain ecological balance.

The planning authorities have alternatives. They can choose to pursue development in areas that are not ecologically sensitive or effectuate plans that integrate with the natural environment, thus preserving these essential habitats. Reviewing alternative options and committing to sustainable development strategies can make a significant difference in safeguarding our natural heritage.

We must prevent this proposal from moving forward without strict environmental assessments and protective measures. Our community has the power to influence this decision and take a stand for the voiceless Wildlife that rely on us for protection.

Join us in sending a clear message to Wigan Council, Vistry Group and their associates. Let them know that we value our Wildlife and Green spaces. We expect responsible, sustainable decision-making processes. Demand that they reject the planning permission that threatens our Community.

Many have objected and condemned the plans online. Please sign this petition to urge the authorities to reconsider this decision and preserve our valuable wildlife habitats for future generations. Your support can make a change. Together, let's ensure that our actions today safeguard the wildlife of tomorrow.
