Why this petition matters

Started by Vredehoek Citizen

Nazareth House Fields in Vredehoek are planned for development, a space which has been used for recreational activities for over 40 years by local communities.

The developers are seeking to rezone the area to increase density and height of the development, creating an enormous set of apartment blocks (21 buildings, comprising 283 apartments) which will divide Vredehoek, block views, reduce open spaces, and increase congestion and pressure on utilities.

As an affected party in Vredehoek, we ask that the application for rezoning be rejected by the city council, keeping the development within General Residential zone 2.

This will reduce the prospects of the developer building higher and more intrusive properties on the erf. The developer has already indicated in planning materials that if zone 4 rights are given they intend to build taller properties, despite saying in their application that they will not exceed zone 2 height limits. Revised plans also show deviation and increased height compared to what was submitted and approved by heritage.

This duplicitous behaviour cannot be allowed to continue, and we ask that local government and cape town city council step in and listen to the voices of the affected community.
