Change dress code policy

The Issue

What inspired me to make this petition was another school's petition for the same thing. Our population today is over-sexualized and that has inspired our school systems to feel like they need to put dress codes in place. The dress codes are as follows: no shoulders showing, no shorts or skirts or dresses mid-thigh or above, No hats, no tight pants, and no holes in jeans. These dress codes are degrading to girls because we get in trouble for something that is just us expressing ourselves in our clothing. We as children should feel free to express ourselves, and when we are restricted from doing that, it can cause depression, stress, or we feel restrained and unable to do anything for ourselves. I can assure you that not one male feels "distracted" by shoulders showing or thighs showing. I understand some dress code to keep uniformity and modesty, but not allowing us to wear what we want is over using that power. One thing that is messed up about the dress code is that girls are allowed to wear strapless shirts or dresses, but as soon as the strap is seen, the whip cracks. Also, it is a privilege that we are offered school, but since we are required to go we should not be forced to buy all new clothing to meet the criteria. To be forced to do something and also have to buy things for what we are being forced to do should not be allowed. The dress code is degrading, and because some of the male population over sexualizes women, we feel bad about ourselves. Please consider signing this petition, thank you.
