Lincoln Deserves Better

The Issue

We are a group of community members and parents who are concerned with the leadership, climate, and culture of Lincoln. Recently Principal Zaniolo resigned, meaning that Lincoln school will be on it’s 5th principal in five years. This instability harms all students, especially those with special needs. We believe this is a symptom of a larger District problem and we hereby petition the School Board and the District to adopt the following recommendations from Lincoln Families:

  1. Hire Adequate Staff. Allocate resources proportionally to the student population of Lincoln to provide an adequate number of Assistant Principals, social workers, special educators, and teachers.
  2. Identify Problems. Conduct a “post-mortem” of the identified missed opportunities by the District to assist the Lincoln Principals in being successful. This should also include exit interviews of Principals Zaniolo, Silva, and Carlos conducted by two or more Board Members. The Board’s findings should be shared with parents by May 1, 2020.
  3. Performance Goals for Superintendent. Establish fair, rigorous, and transparent performance goals for the District Superintendent with regard to retention/turnover of principals, and make them public by April 1, 2020.
  4. Professional Analysis. By April 1, 2020, secure a third party organization to conduct a comprehensive analysis of the problems Lincoln faces and how best to address them. This is a necessary first step in rebuilding trust both within Lincoln and community as a whole. This analysis should:
    - Include interviews with the Lincoln community and District administration, including Lincoln teachers, parents, staff, and past employees. Special consideration should be given Lincoln’s prior three principals;
    - Be conducted by an organization with demonstrated expertise in this area.
    - Be informed by data that is made publicly available, along with the analysis as a whole.
