Rebuild Oak Island's Local Skate Park
The Issue
� So this petition is a start to show our local township what our community wants, and to see what our area visitors want as well. I think it’s important to receive the opinions of those who visit us just as much as our residents, since they are a major source of our revenue and we want to create something that will give them a reason for them to want to keep coming back.
We want to become a destination, not just a small stop on their trip.
Walking the beach today collecting signatures it was good to hear directly from the people and the overwhelming majority is in favor of a skatepark and opposed to a pump track.
Much of the time spent wasn’t on taking down signatures, but was on education because many didn’t know what a pump track is, why would we want to spend $300,000 on something for our community that no one knows what it is!?
Something with more of a learning curve that can create a danger zone or something that will not be used and become a loss leader for our community.
We need to build something for our youth. We need a place for events, and tournaments. A community hub.
We need to create an outlet that is positive and will be used safely by our youth and our families. Something that can not only serve to improve your skill level, but also show we are taking this sport seriously. Skateboarding is in the Olympics, why wouldn’t we focus on something that can help inspire and grow our younger community?
Something we so desperately need, this will lower our crime rate in our area since the focus will be diverted toward something positive and will help keep our community healthy and happy.
We challenge you to step up. Collect signatures and bring them by yourself, if you like. If you need a template I will be happy to send one over.
We will be walking the beach continuing to collect signatures and stopping at every one of our local parks. We will also have this set up at the shop and will be making a change.org petition where you can support the cause digitally. Thank you, now let’s save our local skate park!! ��
