The Issue
A rising sophomore at New York University Tandon School of Engineering needs your help in unlearning his abusive behaviors towards women.
Most college students are no strangers to sexual assault. According to the National Sexual Violence Resource Center, one in five women and one in sixteen men are sexually assaulted while in college. In addition, sixty-three percent of men at one university who self-reported acts qualifying as rape or attempted rape admitted to committing repeat rapes.
The likeliness of repeat offenses, and the safety of students, is why it is so important to bring to light the actions of an New York University student who has sexually harassed a sexual assault survivor for four months. He has also previously harassed several women, and has persistently messaged his rape fantasies about specific women that he knows to some of his victims.
Now, for the safety of the students and for his own self improvement, we, a group consisting of both concerned students and the people he has victimized, are trying to get NYU to take action to discipline this student for his reprehensible behavior. In order for us to gain the attention of the school administration and bring awareness to the severity of this issue, we need to get as many people to publicly show their support by signing this petition to get people to sign it. Because sexual violence doesn’t start or end with this student. This violence is perpetuated by everyone who feels entitled to women’s spaces and inevitably expresses this entitlement with violence. We believe that there is still hope for abusers to change their toxic behavior and mentality. With your help, we can get NYU to take accountability for its students and create a safer environment.
Attached below are two testimonials and a letter to the abuser from some of the survivors of his harassment.
