The students of NYU Tandon would like to implement a pass/fail grading system for the Fall 2020 semester. Many students are struggling adjusting to the online format that is being conducted for classes and exams. We, the students of NYU Tandon, understand that online classes are necessary to protect the health of the general public due to the fluctuations of cases of COVID-19. The number of cases in NYC are rising, and flu season is beginning. Many people are leaving New York for safety reasons, which creates additional stress in adjusting. Students are completing classes and exams from around the world, dealing with severe natural disasters such as hurricanes and wild fires, while trying to remain on top of schooling. Additionally many students do not have access to sufficient wifi, which creates immense stress while taking exams and quizzes with time restraints. The student class of NYU Tandon requests a pass/fail system, like the one that was implemented in Spring 2020. This system would allow for students to remain in college and continue to get their degree without having constant anguish about GPA, due to the many factors that online schooling has on education. A pass/fail system would help relieve the mental toll that online schooling has taken on students, creating overall better mental health by dissipating extreme stress.
