NYU Pays for NYT, WSJ, and WaPo subscriptions
Why this petition matters

New York University is one of the premier academic institutions in the world, who's brand and student base is undeniably associated with political involvement. NYU boasts its commitment to social justice and political awareness, therefore, they should take upon themselves the imperative to educate its student populous by paying for subscriptions to premier news organizations such as NYT, WSJ, and WaPO. Full disclosure, NYU already offers close to a 50% discount to NYT and WSJ, but if they can pay for a full subscription to HBO for its students, they can pick up the tab for a significantly less pricey subscription to important news organizations. Especially considering the importance of the upcoming presidential election in November, the student population must stay up-to-date with the current political climate and the candidates who will be our potential future leaders. As I try to stay informed about things such as the Iowa Caucus and the tariffs that our president attempts to impose on countries that affect the financial wellbeing of people in our country, I am frustrated with the lack of efficient accessibility to this information because I have reached my “article limit” for the month. Therefore, I am proposing a petition in favor of one of the richest academic institutions in the country to pick up the tab of $2/week for the educational awareness of its student body.
