Get rid of the chokehold.  

Police officers should use other, more safer methods to detain people.  On March 3rd, 2020 in Tacoma, WA Manuel Ellis died as a result of being put in a chokehold by police officers.  On July 14, 2014, Eric Garner suffered a very public death.  Garner was killed by police by the chokehold method.

Both Ellis and Garner were black men.  Black men who begged and pleaded for their lives.  Cops listened to these men cry out, “I can’t breathe.” while locking their necks tighter.  

Police officers should be trained in detaining people in different ways.  Police officers should be able to detain and restrain potential criminals by bear-hugging them or carefully placing them on the ground.

The chokehold method cuts the airway off and eventually stifles a person to death.  You cannot live without breathing, so if you are putting someone in a chokehold, you are essentially trying to kill them.

No more black men should die at the hands of the very same people being paid to protect them.
