Get Bronx Health Sciences High School Investigated!
The Issue
Bronx Health Sciences High School (BHS) located in 750 Baychester Ave, The Bronx, NY 10475 inside the Harry S. Truman High School campus has been run unethically since 2012. The school has a suspiciously high graduation rate and nearly perfect attendance, this is because students are pressured into transferring from the school. For instance, a student would get in trouble for a minor inconvenience like wearing the wrong shoes or dying their hair and would be sent to an office where their parent(s)/guardian(s) would be called and they would have to stay in that office for the rest of the school day. What does that mean for the student? They fall behind on their studies and fail their classes; because of this, they will rush to transfer from the school and that’s how keeps their high stats. This school has great potential and is great for students who would like to pursue a health-related career, however, the way its run is disgusting and downright shady. The bottom line is, if your child is not smart, they don’t care about you and they want you out of their school. Students who struggle academically deserve to have extra help and support, not be bullied into transferring to another school. There is a difference between being strict and harshly “disciplining” students and this school crosses the line. Sign this petition to bring justice to the students who have had a terrible experience at the school and also the parents who had to deal insignificant phone calls from the school about their child’s “misbehavior.” Students who act up in class deserve to face consequences but students who genuinely made a mistake that the school considers “misconduct” do not deserve to be treated the same as troublemakers. The NYC DOE needs to investigate this school because if they don’t, they become part of the problem. Education is valuable and schools should be making sure that every student is treated the same and gets the support they need. Below are two articles that go more in depth about what the school does to its students. Please read them because they provide more information and different accounts of previous students’ experiences. As a previous freshman of BHS, I have had a terrible experience too and I know I’m not the only one. Help us make BHS a better school for the sake of the teachers and staff who work there that enjoy their job and the students who attend.
