Re-instate Full Pension Benefits to Retiring Special Needs School Nurse

The Issue

For most, we work and work our entire adult lives with the goal of enjoying our retirement. Unfortunately my mother, a nurse for all of her adult life and now a school nurse for special needs children, will not have a fulfilling retirement. Because of a loophole in the Board of Education system she will only be receiving $400 a month for her pension!

She had taken an early retirement, but rescinded her decision after only five (5) months. She returned to the Board of Ed and was not reinstated to her full retirement benefits. She has gone through all the admnistrative channels and was basically told that there was no precedence for this and for it to change it has to become a law. The lawyer will continue to work on this, but let's be honest we know how long this process can take. My mother may never see the benefits if it is made into a law.

It is incomprehensible that for a hardworking, taxpaying constituent, who cares for special needs children, is treated with no regard. I am quite sure that she is not the first person that this has happened to, but we are hoping that she is the last.

School Nurses play a vital role in the education system, just as teachers do, but are not regarded the same.

My mother deserves to receive her full retirement benefits, because she has earned them. Please help so that not only she can receive what is rightfully hers, but it can establish a fair precedent so that no School Nurse would ever have to go through the terror of not knowing how they are going to be able to support themselves when it is their turn to retire.
