The Issue

The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) has violated gender rights for nurses in India through clear “gender-based discrimination” by passing a rule that 80% of nursing positions are to only be offered to female nurses and that only 20% are to be open to males and the LGBT community.

There is no data, research or evidence to show unsuitability of males or LGBT nursing candidates who have dedicated their lives to the nursing profession and to the delivery of health care in India, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic.

I am asking for your support, whether you are a nurse or not, to show AIIMS and India that gender-based discrimination is not tolerated and that the world recognizes that this is an injustice.

The goal of this petition is for this decision to be reversed and for all nursing positions to be made available to all genders (female, male, LGBT).

As a male nurse born in Canada and now working in the USA, I want to express my full support for gender equality in the workplace for nurses in India. A nurse is a nurse is a nurse. Regardless of gender, religion, ethnicity. We all serve to heal, promote health and wellness, and support our patients, clients, and their families. Embracing diversity is a beautiful thing and ALL nurses should have an equal opportunity to work free from any gender discrimination. I stand with all nurses, individuals, and organizations who promote this inclusiveness and encourage all nurses in India (male, female, or other genders) and all around the world to come together and promote positive change. Together we can make this right and have this decision reversed.

Thank you for your support,
